The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has a 50-year history of sharing the glorious Vedic culture of India with people of all nations, races, and walks of life throughout the world. Founded in 1966 by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, ISKCON is a movement with a mission to promote the well-being of society by teaching the science of Krishna consciousness according to Bhagavad-Gita and other ancient scriptures. ISKCON has over 600 centers, rural communities, schools, and restaurants across the globe in countries including Russia, Canada, Kazakhstan, Poland, Switzerland, Australia, and South Africa. These centers are beacons of spiritual enlightenment, bringing peace to a restless world. This spread depicts ISKCON’s accomplishments around the world.
Krishna Consciousness, also known as Bhakti Yoga, is one of the great spiritual traditions of the Vedas. In this monotheistic practice, the Absolute Truth, the source of all life, is understood to be a person. His name is Krishna, a Sanskrit word which means “all attractive”.
The foundational teaching of bhakti yoga is that we are not our bodies. Rather we are the soul, the consciousness that animates the body. Anything alive, then, signals the presence of the soul.
The teachings of Krishna Consciousness enable us to awaken our true self and to develop our personal spiritual relationship with Krishna. The practices include mantra meditation, the study of philosophy and active service.
Our Mission
We are trying to give human society an opportunity for a life of happiness, good health, peace of mind and all good qualities through God Consciousness.
Srila Prabhupada, our beloved spiritual master and the founder-acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has blessed us with this opportunity for a happy and peaceful life. We just have to practice the following principles:
- Chant the holy names, Hare Krishna maha-mantra every day
- Read the Srimad Bhagavatam, the spotless purana that glorifies the Supreme Lord
- Honor prasadam, the food sanctified by offering to the Supreme Lord
Our Vision

Thus, they are inspired to live in this world with a clarity of spiritual purpose that helps them flourish in all facets of their lives.
Maintaining – ISKCON of Halifax is a center dedicated to perpetuating the pure principles of bhakti-yoga (love and devotion to God) in direct line with the past saintly personalities of the Vedic tradition. Without Cruelty (Ahimsa) inspires a life of non-violence, fostering peace and kindness in thought, word, and action. Humility (Amanitva) keeps us grounded, reminding us that true wisdom comes from a heart free of pride. Choice (Iccha) empowers us to align our free will with higher spiritual goals, making conscious decisions that uplift ourselves and others. Nurturing Right Action (Dharma) instills a sense of duty and righteousness, ensuring that every action is guided by integrity and truth. Finally, Affection (Prithi) fosters love, warmth, and selfless service, strengthening our connection with the divine and the world around us. By embracing these principles, we walk a path of spiritual enlightenment, harmony, and fulfillment.
